Here are a few ways to use this resource: • Read only the short ‘oo’ word book cards and place onto the short ‘oo’ word shelf. • For an extra challenge sort all the short ‘oo’ word book cards onto the shelf but mix some other word book cards into the sorting activity. • Sort the different ‘oo’ book cards between the long and short ‘oo’ word shelves.

Here is a resource I created to help support the teaching of real words and alien words. The 2nd and 3rd page can be laminated and placed back to back to use with a white board pen during phonics lessons. You can also do the same with the smaller cards and ask the children or child to show you if the word is an alien word or a real word. As part of our topic we invited parents and carers into school to come and view the children’s art work for the term. For one of the English lessons we wrote a invitation for the children to write in their books and re-copy in their best handwriting and take home with them.

Here are some rhyming cards that can be used as part of a phase one phonics lesson. They also match the video Eggy’s Amazing day which is currently on Youtube.
